The Beauty Of Living In Washington State

The Beauty Of Living In Washington State

Published on  by Eleanor Mueller

It’s rare to meet a Washingtonian who isn’t proud of where they come from – especially now, with the Seahawks recentSuper Bowl victory. But there are many more reasons than football for this statewide pride. When it comes to natural beauty, recreation, and even weather, there’s no place like Washington, in the country or even the world.

There are countless features in The Evergreen State that make it a wonderful place to live and visit, and here are seven of the best.

  1. Natural Beauty - Sandwiched between the Pacific Ocean, San Juan Islands, Olympic and Cascade Mountains, and Lake Washington, the Puget Sound boasts a diversity of natural beauty unmatched by almost any other metropolitan area. Take a quick ferry ride to enjoy the area’s incredible views. Even on the other side of the Cascades, eastern Washington’s many plateaus and river valleys add to the state’s dynamic appeal.
  2. The Emerald City - Seattle has a variety of one-of-a-kind urban attractions that together have earned it the title of Best-Liked City in the United States, which include the Pike Place Market, Space Needle, Olympic Sculpture Park, Downtown Waterfront, Ballard Locks, International District, and Boeing Factory. Beyond these, the city is home to the University of Washington, numerous museums and restaurants, and exciting annual events likeSeafair, Bumbershoot, and Hempfest.
  3. Freak Climate - Although in western Washington, wet and mild temperatures prevail (resulting in some of thehighest rainfall in the contiguous United States), eastern Washington’s climate is much more dry and extreme, with freezing cold winters and hot summers. This is because of its location on the opposite side of the Cascades, which experiences a severe rain shadow effect. Whether you prefer consistent weather year-round or enjoy pronounced seasons, there’s a place for you in Washington State!
  4. Outdoor Recreation - For visitors and residents, options abound when it comes time to choosing the next outdoor adventure. Kayakers have their pick between the Pacific Ocean and the state’s many freshwater bodies, while skiers can head to local resorts like Snoqualmie and Steven’s Pass, or even make the drive up to Whistler. When it comes to hiking, choice in trails varies from the Arboretum in Seattle to Mount Rainier, Mount St. Helens, or even Olympic National Park.
  5. Innovative Culture - Home to the headquarters of many of the world’s most innovative companies, Washington State has a business economy like no other. Microsoft, Amazon, Starbucks, Nordstrom, and thousands of others were started in the area, and remain there to this day.
  6. Groundbreaking Music Scene - Seattle is not only responsible for the 90’s grunge movement, but has produced many of today’s most popular entertainers. Nirvana, Heart, Soundgarden, Jimi Hendrix, Modest Mouse, and Macklemore all call Washington home, and are proud of it.
  7. Coffee - Whether it’s the overcast weather or affluent population, Seattle has the highest ratio of coffee shops to citizens in the world at 2.5 per every 1000. The home of Tully’s, Seattle’s Best, Starbucks and Caffe Vito (to name a few), Washington State is undoubtedly the nation’s coffee capital.

If you’re looking for a diverse, creative, and beautiful place to live, Washington State has so much to offer! These are just a few of the reasons we love calling Washington home, and we hope you’ll join us.
